ABOVE: Youngsters rush for prizes during the Ping-Pong Prize Drop at the Georgetown Fair Grandstands.
It was one night before the opening of the carnival, but CIMG met youngsters of all ages at the Georgetown Fair Monday evening. The first stop was meeting twin sisters Kelsey and Kaylee Blackford, from the Armstrong – Potomac area, in the Senior Division of the 4-H Open Beef Showcase.
Kelsey took first place. And now, she’s ready for a, should we say, bigger challenge.
AUDIO: I had hoped I’d have a chance. This is my last year to be able to do any open shows. I’ve done 4-H all the way through; my dad sells show cattle. So it’s kind of been worn in. (What do you do next?) I get married August first.

(1st Picture) Kelsey Blackford poses with her first place winner. (3rd Picture) Twin Sister Kaylee Blackford gives a friend a close-up view of her honorable mention winner.
And when Kelsey gets married, twin-sister and co-competitor Kaylee will be her maid of honor. Kaylee felt pretty good about her honorable mention finish.
AUDIO: He’s not been out to a whole lot of shows, so I’m pretty happy with the way he showed. He set up pretty nicely when he wanted to get stopped; but it’s been a long couple of days, so he was trying to push me around the ring. I can’t blame him.

(Middle Picture) During “touch a truck,” Makayla Waterman helps a youngster get in and out of her race car.
Over at the grandstands, during all the noise of the “Touch-a-Truck” attraction; a very popular stop was the pair of junior size open wheel race cars driven by Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School junior to be Makayla Waterman; who on Tuesday hopes to improve how she did last year.
AUDIO: They just started doing it last year. So. this will be our second year here. (How did you do last year?) I got second in both of my classes. (Ah, you’re looking to go all the way this year, right?) Yep. (Good luck to you.) THANK YOU.
Makayla mentioned, by the way, that her home racing track is Terre Haute.

(1st Picture) Children under four get ready for their version of the Ping-Pong Prize Drop.
And finally, all the kids of numerous age groups were ready for the annual Ping Pong Prize Drop; from the fireman’s lift way up above. And including one youngster who hoped to be a repeat winner.
AUDIO: (Okay, what prize are you going to win tonight, what do you think? A bike. (What kind of a bike? What color?) Ah, blue. (Have you won anything here before?) Yes. (What was it?) A bike.

And starting today, both the carnival and the entire Georgetown Fair will run full tilt through Saturday,,, ending with Saturday’s demolition derby.
