The generous charitable tips collected from customers allowed the cooking team of Stephani and Rick Jones Jr. and friends Tori Appl and husband Jason Smith of Westville to donate two $1,500 checks to the Danville Chapter of AMBUCS and OSF Foundation for cancer support services.
“We’re so excited about it,” Stephani said.
The Joneses and Appl and Smith took over concessions for the Danville Dans this summer. School and other groups had manned the stand previously, and the person who had been running it wanted to step away, Stephani said.
She said Appl’s father, Greg Wolfe, lines up sponsorships for the Dans, and they started helping out by grilling hamburgers, etc., for host families. Three of them are teachers and “summers are fairly open for us,” she said.
Stephani said the season has been “good. It’s been a lot of work. We do feel like it will be easier the next summer.”
They did a “huge deep clean and rearranged things” in the concessions area and worked the menu a little differently.
