THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE RELEASE
DANVILLE, IL — A new scholarship at Danville Area Community College Foundation will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Wen Hsin Lin while helping local students pursue their educational dreams.
The Dr. Wen Hsin Lin Scholarship, sponsored by his wife, Yon Meei Lin, reflects the couple’s deep appreciation for education, family, and the Danville community they called home for more than 30 years.
Yon Meei and her late husband came to the United States from Taiwan in 1967 in pursuit of better educational opportunities. They moved to Danville in 1973 to raise their three children, Jody, Bill, and Janet, and build a better future for their family.
“Getting used to life in America was exciting, but it was also hard,” Yon Meei shared. “Things that seem commonplace now, like cheese, trick-or-treaters, and static electricity, were all new experiences for us.”
Despite the challenges of adjusting to a new country and culture, the Lin family found a welcoming community in Danville. Yon Meei recalls the many people who extended a helping hand, taught them local customs, and eventually became like family.
Dr. Lin devoted his career to caring for the community, providing medical care to four generations of women through countless office visits, counseling sessions, and even delivering babies in the middle of the night.
The Lin family developed a deep love for Danville and its community. They enjoyed many of the local institutions and traditions, including Royal Donut, Lee’s Fried Chicken, the Village Mall, and especially Danville Area Community College.

“DACC makes higher education affordable and has given everyone the opportunity to expand their knowledge in so many areas,” Yon Meei said. “As access to a good education was always important to us, we wanted to help our beloved community with a scholarship so that others can fulfill their own dreams.”
The Dr. Wen Hsin Lin Scholarship will provide financial assistance to a DACC student, carrying forward Dr. Lin and Yon Meei’s belief that education can open doors, strengthen families, and create opportunities for a brighter future.
Through this scholarship, the Lin family hopes to give back to the community that welcomed them decades ago and helped make Danville their home.
“The Dr. Wen Hsin Lin Scholarship is a beautiful example of how one family’s love for education and their community can create opportunities for generations to come. Dr. Lin and Yon Meei Lin (Julie) have left an incredible legacy in Danville, and we are honored to help carry that legacy forward through this scholarship. Their generosity will make a meaningful difference for a DACC student by helping remove financial barriers and making it possible for that student to pursue their educational goals and dreams. We are deeply grateful to the Lin family for their continued belief in the power of education and their commitment to giving back to the community they love.” Tonya S. Hill, Executive Director, DACC Foundation
