THE FOLLOWING IS FROM JENNIFER BAILEY’S “BAILEY BUZZ” COLUMN IN THE NEWS-GAZETTE
ABOVE: The former Days Hotel at 77 N. Gilbert St. in Danville is slated to become a Comfort Inn and also house Sol Del Mar Mexican Grill and Sports Bar, with the restaurant moving its Westville site to have north and south Danville locations.
What’s going on at the Days Hotel near Gilbert and Main streets in Danville? The letters are blacked out on the sign.
Residents will be happy to hear that positive changes are coming to the property.
Plans are to renovate the property into a Comfort Inn and for the Sol Del Mar Mexican restaurant currently based in Westville to move into the former Roma Italian Restaurant location on the premises that closed a few months ago.
In the meantime, the hotel remains open, representatives say. The remodel will include new carpeting and other features and a new banquet center, according to Ken Patel.
No date has been set for the remodel to be complete, but Patel said the restaurant change could take place by the end of the year.
Sol Del Mar already has a location on North Vermilion Street in Danville. This would be the second Danville location, said owner Roman Ocampo.
Ocampo said his Westville restaurant isn’t doing as good of business as the one in Danville, and he’s looking forward to having a second Danville restaurant to “bring more business” and a sports bar that would be open later.
Ocampo said the restaurant’s menu will stay the same, and the move could take a couple months.
