Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing much better jobs numbers for Vermilion County and the City of Danville when compared to one year ago.
For Vermilion County unemployment in July of this year came in at 4.6% after being up at 6.1% in July of 2025.
For the City of Danville, the unemployment rate showed 5.7% in July of this year, after being up at 7.3% in July of 2025.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 125 jobs from July to 2025 to July of 2026, with the total number of non-farm jobs coming at 25,100.
In looking at specific categories, employment over the last year increased by 300 jobs in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, by 225 jobs in Private Education-Health Services, and by 25 jobs in Leisure and Hospitality.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 225 jobs in Professional-Business Services, by 100 in Manufacturing, and by 25 in Construction, Financial Activities, and Other Services.
Payrolls were unchanged in the categories of Government and Information.
