THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
The City of Danville will be holding a Grand Opening for the renovated Garfield Park on Monday, September 14, at 5:00 PM. The celebration will begin with a ribbon cutting at 5:00 PM and all community members and project partners are invited to attend! Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. will share remarks recognizing the importance of Garfield Park and the continued investment in community parks and recreational spaces.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy FREE ice cream from Paw Paw Pete’s Ice Cream Truck from 5:00-6:00 p.m., generously sponsored by GameTime Sports. After 6:00 p.m., ice cream will be available for purchase while supplies last.
These park upgrades were funded through the State of Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant. The City of Danville received $600,000.00 for new playground equipment for children ages 2-12, corn hole equipment, football field goals, and a shelter. Sidewalks throughout the park will be designed to ADA Standards and provide walking loops for physical exercise.
