THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM STATE REP SCHWEIZER’S OFFICE
DANVILLE, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) issued the following statement after being presented with the 2026 Legislator of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions, following his work in the district and on legislation to support veterans.
“It is an honor to receive the 2026 Legislator of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions,” said Rep. Schweizer. “Thanks to our county commissions, our veterans have front-line teams that are available to provide the support they need. As a 21-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I understand how needed these programs are in our communities and I am grateful for the advocacy of our local VACs.”

Veteran Assistance Commissions (VACs) are county-level government agencies that provide resources to veterans such as emergency financial relief, benefits advocacy, and local support.
Since taking office, Schweizer has advocated for veterans through various pieces of legislation. This year alone, Schweizer supported many measures, one which protects military students’ educational rights when they are called to serve (SB 3737). He also served as the chief co-sponsor on bipartisan legislation to strengthen and expand existing support for veterans seeking mental health treatments for conditions such as PTSD (SB 3926).
The Representative has also filed resolutions to commemorate Military Appreciation Month in May 2026 (HR 863) and Fallen Heroes Month in June 2026 (HR 864).
Schweizer remains committed to continuing to support veterans through his work in Springfield and in the district.
