Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing slight increases in the unemployment rates in both Vermilion County and Danville for July to August; with both showing significant decreases when compared to August of last year.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 4.6% in July to 4.7% in August. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 6.1% in August of 2025.
For the City of Danville, unemployment increased from 5.7% in July to 5.8% in August. Danville stood at 7.1 in August of last year.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 250 jobs from August of 2025 to August of 2026, with the total number of non-farm jobs coming in at 25, 375.
In looking at specific categories, employment over the past year increased in Private Education – Health Services by 275, and in Leisure – Hospitality by 50.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 225 jobs in Professional – Business Services, 100 in Trade – Transportation – Utilities, 75 in both Government and Manufacturing, 50 in Construction, and 25 in Financial Activities.
There were no changes over the past year in the Information and Other Services categories.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
