THE FOLLOWING IS A KEEP VERMILION COUNTY BEAUTIFUL RELEASE
DANVILLE, IL – The Vermilion County Health Department, in partnership with Danville Area Community College (DACC) and Keep Vermilion County Beautiful (KVCB), will host a free electronics recycling collection event from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3. The event will take place in the north parking lot of DACC, 2000 East Main Street, Danville, and is open to all residents of Vermilion County. The collection provides residents with a convenient way to responsibly dispose of broken, obsolete, or unwanted electronics. While the event is free of charge, donations to Keep Vermilion County Beautiful are appreciated to support future beautification efforts.
Due to the success of collecting batteries at the spring event, batteries will again be accepted for recycling at the October 3 collection. Single-use and rechargeable batteries up to 11 pounds and under 300 watt-hours can be accepted. The raised terminal of all batteries must be taped, including button and coin cell batteries. Do not cover the battery brand name or chemistry. Vapes cannot be accepted.
The following batteries will not be accepted: damaged or defective batteries, batteries that are part of a recall, wet-cell batteries such as car batteries, batteries weighing more than 11 pounds, or batteries over 300 watt-hours. Batteries that are not properly taped will not be accepted. Residents should contact the Vermilion County Health Department for information on the proper disposal of damaged or defective batteries. Batteries can also be dropped off at the health department during regular business hours.
Participants may bring a maximum of seven televisions or computer monitors, in any combination, per household. Accepted electronics include:
Televisions (CRT and flat screen)
Computer monitors (CRT and flat screen)
Computers and laptops
Printers, scanners, and copiers
Keyboards, mice, and computer peripherals
DVD players, VCRs, and gaming consoles
Fax machines, cell phones, and PDAs
Satellite dishes and cable boxes
Cameras, radios, and clocks
Fans, vacuum cleaners, and wiring
“We’re pleased to offer another opportunity for Vermilion County residents to properly dispose of unwanted electronics,” said Environmental Health Inspector Caitline Wolfe. “We’re especially happy to continue accepting batteries. We receive many questions about proper battery disposal, and this collection gives residents another convenient option to recycle their household batteries.”
Please note that paint, motor oil, large appliances, dehumidifiers and vapes will not be accepted at the collection.
Residents are reminded that Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain electronic products—including televisions, monitors, computers, and DVD players—in landfills. Recycling these items helps keep potentially hazardous materials out of the waste stream and allows valuable materials to be recovered and reused.
