THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
Danville, September 29, 2026 – Demolition will begin at 930 N. Hazel Street on September 29th due to the property’s hazardous and unsafe condition.
This property was originally condemned in 2016; however, those plans were halted after the City of Danville learned that the Dick Van Dyke Foundation intended to privately raise funds to restore the home and transform it into a museum. The City was not a part of the process and neither had knowledge of the amount raised nor access to the funds themselves.
Property taxes went unpaid as far back as 2011, and ownership eventually transferred to the Vermilion County Trustee. In December 2016, the City of Danville acquired property.

Unfortunately, the structure has deteriorated to the point that it is considered hazardous and beyond repair. After careful evaluation, the property has been deemed unsalvageable, making demolition the safest and most responsible course of action.
We ask community members to respect the work zone and allow contractors the necessary space to safely carry out the demolition process.
We anticipate this demolition and clean up to be completed by the end of the week.
