Media invited to capture camp fun and life-changing moments with children, counselors
MONTICELLO, Ill. – Carle Health will host Camp Healing Heart, a unique, day-long event to help children and teens experiencing the death of a loved one, on Saturday, Oct. 3. We invite media to spend time with children and counselors as they have fun with camp activities while also learning grief coping skills that will help them in adulthood.
Camp Healing Heart began in 2005 by the Carle Hospice team, with the goal of supporting children and teens ages 5 through 17. Healing Heart is free to campers, thanks to generous support from Carle Health Center for Philanthropy, and is staffed by about 100 volunteers from Carle Health and the community. Forty-five campers are expected this year.
The camp is open to any youth who have registered, whether they are patients or have a connection to Carle Health.
WHO: Interviews will be made available with:
· Members of the Camp Healing Heart planning committee, who are Carle Hospice volunteer coordinators, social workers, chaplains and clinicians.
· Select camp attendees.
· Select camp counselors.
WHAT:
· Therapeutic sessions interspersed with camp activities.
· Hayrack rides.
· A climbing wall.
· Arts and crafts.
WHEN: Members of the media are invited to attend from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Oct. 3, 2026.
WHERE: 4H Memorial Camp at Allerton Park, 499 Old Timber Road, Monticello, Ill., 61856.
DIRECTIONS: Upon entering the camp, follow the signs to the 4H Memorial Camp and Camp Healing Heart. A member of the Carle Health PR team will meet media at the dining hall.
