THE FOLLOWING IS A UNITED WAY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
VERMILION COUNTY, IL HAS BEEN AWARDED FEDERAL FUNDS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS)/ FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA) UNDER THE EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER NATIONAL BOARD PROGRAM (EFSP).
Vermilion County has been chosen to receive the following awards to supplement emergency food and shelter programs: $ 30,624.00 (Phase 39); $ 37,547.00 (Phase 40); $ 40,759.00 (Phase 41); and $94,650.00 (ARPAR).
The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ; The Jewish Federations of North America; The Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide. The Local Board is charged with distributing funds appropriated by Congress in high-need areas across the country.
The (Vermilion County) Local Board, made up of community leaders, will determine how the awarded funds will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under the program.
Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must meet the following conditions:
Be private voluntary non-profits or units of government.
Be eligible to receive Federal Funds (have a current UEI number-Unique Entity Identifier).
Have an accounting system.
Practice nondiscrimination.
Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.
If they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.
All qualifying agencies are encouraged to apply. Vermilion County has previously distributed EFSP Funds with East Central Illinois Community Action, The Salvation Army, Danville Township Food Pantry, and The Food Cupboard in Hoopeston participating.

Applications are due by Monday, June 17th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. and may be returned via email at info@unitedwayda.org or in person to the United Way office at 801 W. Fairchild St.
