THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On 08/21/24 around 8:47 pm, Danville Police responded to the area of the 300 block of Buchanan Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers learned that multiple shots had been fired in the area where a residence and vehicle were struck by the gunfire. No injuries were reported at the scene. While investigating the scene, officers were informed a black in color Ford Fusion was involved in the incident.
Around 9:18 pm, Danville Police located a black in color Ford Fusion in the area of South Street and Park Street, which is only a few blocks away from where the shooting took place. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle to investigate further, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began. During the pursuit officers observed a firearm was thrown from the vehicle. One of the responding officers stopped and recovered the firearm as evidence.
The Ford Fusion continued to the area of the 900 block of Fowler Street where the vehicle struck a tree and the pursuit ended. Officers were able to take the driver into custody and he was identified as a 17-year-old male from Danville. A 24-year-old male passenger was also located inside the vehicle and was later released from the scene.
The 17-year-old juvenile has initially been charged with aggravated UUW, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and obstructing or resisting arrest.
Members of the public are reminded that a complaint is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
