Some of the top horseshoe pitchers in the state will be in Danville this weekend as the city hosts the 2024 Illinois State Horseshoe Tournament. The competition begins Friday, August 30th, and continues through Sunday, September 1st at the Douglas Park Horseshoe Complex.
The park is located along Bowman Avenue, one block north of the Bowman Avenue interchange with Interstate 74.
There will be 101 pitchers competing for the top spot in 15 classes. Austin Bailey of Springfield, the defending Men’s Champion, and Elder’s Champion Ken Schaver of Morrison will be back to defend their titles. New champions will be determined in the Women, Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Cadets categories.
The Tournament is sanctioned by the NHPA (National Horseshoe Pitchers Association). Spectators are invited to watch the action and there is no admission charge.
The pitching begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday with the doubles event and resumes at 8:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday with the singles competition.
