DANVILLE — Several members of Danville Firefighters Local 429 got their hands dirty on their day off Thursday, helping with Habitat for Humanity of Danville’s home build for veteran Mark Whaling.
It certainly wasn’t a first for the local first responders, who have helped with many Habitat projects.
In 2012, for instance, firefighters, police officers and ambulance personnel helped Habitat of Danville build its 50th home as part of the Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Danville fire Lt. Brian Hogg and firefighter Matt Goodner weren’t involved with previous Habitat projects but were proud to assist with this one, where they worked on flooring and some other pieces.
“They set us up on cutting these trusses, and that’s our job,” Goodner said.
“So, far,” Hogg said, adding that he was the “holder and measurer guy.”
Goodner and Hogg said they’re “absolutely” glad to help out.
