Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6. Poetry Call: Back to School 2025. Introducing our new Digital Database: Biblioboard! October 20: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be learning about Pumpkins! 4:30 PM in the Program Room.
October 21: Vermilion County Master Gardeners. Join Vermilion County Master Gardeners for a seminar sharing what tools every gardener needs, some ideas on soil amendments, water conservation practices, when and how much to plant, and more at Danville Public Library at 6 p.m. in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. October 21: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: BINGO! Come play Bingo and win prizes. 5:00 PM in the Program Room. Ages 8-12.
October 21: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under – Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room.
October 22: Teen Crafternoons. Stop by on Wednesday afternoons for an hour of fun, hands-on craft. This week: Black Cat Diamond Art! No registration needed, just bring your creativity and hang out! 4:00 – 5:00 PM on the 2nd Floor. Ages 13-19.
October 22: Teen Writing Club. Come write, chill, and connect. No pressure – just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts and snacks to fuel your mind. Every Wednesday, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 22: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
October 23: Silent Book Club. A cozy, no-pressure gathering for readers of all kinds! Bring your own book or check one out, enjoy a quiet hour of reading, and connect with your community in a relaxed, welcoming space. No assigned reading, no expectations – just books and good company. The 4th Thursday of the month August – October. 4:30 – 6:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
October 25: Dead People of Illinois – John Lynn. Searching for dead people in all the right places, this ”underground” presentation explores hundreds of Illinois cemeteries to find interesting graves and headstones, intriguing lives and deaths, and lots and plots of funny names. It’s an opportunity for mortals to not only whistle past the graveyard, but to pause and enjoy the oddities of life and death while we’re still on the right side of history. 3 pm in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
October 25: Make-a-Snake. Kids will turn old neckties into fun snake crafts—then meet a real snake and learn cool facts from a reptile expert! Ages 5–12 | All materials provided. 1:30 pm in the Program Room.
October 25: Sensory and Bilingual Story Adventures. A unique programming experience combining bilingual storytelling with sensory-friendly activities, designed to engage children of all abilities. This inclusive program creates a welcoming space where stories come to life through interactive elements, fostering language development and sensory exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Saturdays at 11:00 AM in the Children’s Department.
Adult Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for a take & make craft! Enjoy October’s Inktober Sketch Kit! While supplies last.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
