Some allegations involving official misconduct and bribery surfaced briefly during Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Vermilion County Board. Board member Jerry Hawker said he was very disappointed that a public official would put out a private conversation. Hawker has denied any wrongdoing.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said last week that her office had received information regarding allegations of official misconduct and bribery. Lacy said she had turned the information over to Illinois State Police which has a Special Investigations Unit that reviews such matters.
County Board Vice-chairman Tim McFadden commented on the situation after Tuesday’s meeting…
AUDIO: Last week the state’s attorney was made aware of some allegations against some members of the county board, some elected officials, as well as Vermilion Advantage. So, she immediately turned it over to proper authorities to open an investigation. So at this point there has been an investigation started, and we will fully comply, cooperate, and be transparent as much as we can with this investigation. So we’ll just be awaiting the results.
McFadden presided over the regular county board meeting Tuesday because board chairman Steve Miller was absent.
