‘Is The Dwelling Place planning to hold an open house for its latest transitional home?’
Nancy O’Kane, director of The Dwelling Place Day Center, said an open house is set for noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday for Abraham House, 123 Payne St., Danville, and will include a blessing by First Presbyterian Church Pastor Macy Ruple and a dedication at noon.
O’Kane said this is the agency’s third transitional shelter; the first, Immanuel’s House, opened in 2022, followed by Bethlehem House. All are located north of the day center at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin St., Danville.
Eligibility is open to Vermilion County residents experiencing homelessness; the head of a household must be 18 or older.
Shelter guests must also be trying to find permanent housing and apply for jobs to prepare financially for attaining housing.
O’Kane said the shelter takes applications, and guests can stay for 30 to 90 days.
