THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Mathiew Woodard 2024-CF-888, 2025-CF-851
On December 3, 2025, Mathiew Woodard (DOB: 12/2/1990), formerly of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty in two separate cases to Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 1 felony, and Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 3 felony. Following his term of imprisonment Woodard will serve 12 months of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on December 3, 2024, a deputy with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a retail theft and questioned Mathiew Woodard. Woodard was found to be in possession of approximately 28 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Subsequent testing of the substance was completed by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab and also returned positive results for methamphetamine.
The People also presented evidence that on November 6, 2025, Mathiew Woodard was the driver of a vehicle that was stopped by a deputy with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for Illinois Vehicle Code violations. The deputy observed a container of suspected cannabis in plain view near the center console. Woodard gave the container to the deputy and admitted the substance was “weed.” The deputy initiated a search of the vehicle. During the search, the officer located a torn baggie underneath the driver’s seat that contained a crystalline substance consistent in appearance with methamphetamine. The substance field-tested positive for the
presence of methamphetamine.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “Repeated possession of methamphetamine endangers the entire community. I would like to thank the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for their work in these cases and their dedication to protect the public from illegal drug activity.”
