DANVILLE — Family and community mean a lot to Pete and Patty Meeker.
They’ve been giving back to the community through tips and donations from their Paw Paw Pete’s Ice Cream trailer for about six years — to local veteran and cancer causes, with Pete being a veteran and having had cancer four times.
Now the family is tackling running a restaurant in the former Leon’s Diner near Carle at The Riverfront.
They hope to open Madison Square Hot Dogs & More, 210 N. Logan Ave., on Jan. 1.
“That’s the target date,” Patty said.
The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner, with hours planned for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. It will be closed Mondays.
