The chairwoman of the Vermilion County Veterans Assistance Commission is promising that office will improve services for veterans. Bill Pickett has the story…
Mickensy Ellis-White addressed members of the Vermilion County Board Tuesday night….
{AUDIO: “We are entrusted with a sacred mission, to serve those who have served us. We will establish clear benchmarks and rigorously track metrics to measure our effectiveness. If a program isn’t meeting the needs of our veterans we will know it, and we will fix it. We owe it to our veterans to be good stewards of their trust and the county’s funds.”}
County Board members were told State Representative Brandun Schweizer recently agreed to serve as interim Superintendent of the Veterans Assistance Commission without pay. Ellis-White also announced two major initiatives to improve service to veterans…
{AUDIO: “We will no longer wait for veterans to find us. We will go to where they are – to community events, to rural areas, and to those who are isolated. To truly achieve this, we are committed to moving our location for more visibility. A more central, accessible, and visible location is not a luxury. It is a necessity for making it easier for every veteran to walk through our doors.”}
As efforts continue to improve assistance to veterans, Ellis-White notes confidentiality will play a key role…
{AUDIO: “While we open our books, we must also reinforce our commitment to confidentiality. The personal information and sensitive circumstances of our veterans will be protected with the utmost security and respect. Confidentiality is a bedrock of trust and we will not compromise it.”}
The Veterans Assistance Commission office will soon be moving into the Joseph G. Cannon Building at 201 North Vermilion Street in Danville. The new office will be located on the first floor of that building, between the County Recorder and Treasurer’s offices.
