AUDIO: (It’s) looking more at the overall department as itself. Having to go from day to day operations of worrying only about your crew and what they’re training is, and moving on to the hardship of having to think about the whole crew, and the responsibilities of that.

Lucio Torres was promoted from firefighter to lieutenant, and credited classes he took from Southern Illinois University that allowed him to take this next step.
AUDIO: I got my Bachelors degree in Public Safety, and I just ascertained by Masters degree in it. So, I always had in mind that I wanted to promote into the organization. So, that’s kind of how that came about.

Danville Fire Chief Aaron Marcott stated that fire department promotions bring about a lot of change for a person.
AUDIO: When you’ve been working side by side with everybody; all of a sudden you’ve got to switch to a new gear. That can always be challenging. You’ve got to go what they call “buddy to boss.” And so, that’s always an interesting transition for people. We always remind them to set expectations early, so that the transition can be smooth and easy.

Fire Chief Aaron Marcott gives ceremony’s closing words; Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr welcomes everyone at beginning, visiting Danville Firefighters view the proceedings.
