Aqua Illinois East Central Division manager Andy Price said the Friday morning (May 29th) annual Lake Vermilion cleanup was a success. He said a mixture of about 25 concerned citizens; from those living along the lake, to Conservation District volunteers, to some area Aqua employees as well kept busy on six different boats; removing trash from the lake from around 8:30 AM to 12 Noon.
AUDIO: Really what we’re trying to do is keep Lake Vermilion as clean as we possibly can. Everything we do on the lake not only cleans, but helps preserve; which is really our most critical infrastructure we have in the community, being Lake Vermilion.
The good news was that the volunteers who gathered at Lake Vermilion County Park took nearly three dump trucks full of trash out of the lake; while the bad news was that it was there in the first place. Price says one thing those along the lake can do is not let their docks become so frail that pieces break off and settle in the lake.
AUDIO: We come across a lot of barrels that were used for docks at one time or another. So if your dock seems to be not in great shape, work on getting it repaired; give us a call. If there’s stuff floating around nearby, or maybe even on the shore; if your dock’s falling apart, needs a little help; we can come out, and we can take some of those barrels for you. And tires; we see tires, because they’re used as a floatation as well.
