The smorgasburg at the Tuesday evening (June 16th) Danville City Council meeting included a presentation from Vermilion County Crimestoppers president Chris Clapp. As he also said earlier this month at a Vermilion County Gun Violence Prevention Committee meeting, people need to understand that calls to the 217-446-TIPS (8477) number first of all go to an out of state source, with only the information offered coming to authorities. When they say anonymous, they mean anonymous.
Clapp told CIMG that he’d love to see Crimestoppers get a little more streamlined with local authorities, and get everyone on the same page. Danville’s Police Chief Christopher Yates agreed.
AUDIO: Making it accessible and organized for the community to actually get on the website, find different things, information that they may know, and want to later on provide a tip for. It’s a tool. And hopefully people will utilize it more in the future.
During “Public Comment,” Balloons Over Vermilion’s Dean Carlton was there to thank the city for their continued help; with BOV’s first year at Kennekuk County Park. He spoke with CIMG afterwards.
AUDIO: Friday we had a great day full of kites, which we were never able to have before. We did a “Candlestick Glow,” which put a lot of fun and fire in the air for people to see and cheer for, and that was quite exciting. Followed by the 300 count drone show, which is the first drone show of any consequence within hundreds of miles of here.

At the start of the Council meeting there was a capacity crowd, as recent state winning track athletes from Danville High School and Schlarman Academy were honored.
