AT&T’s “250 for 250” campaign honored America’s 250th birthday by handing out laptops to 250 college bound students in the Danville and Chicago areas.
During the early afternoon hours on Wednesday (June 24th), 75 recently graduated DHS students heading to DACC, or to four-year schools on various scholarships, received free laptops from AT&T. Their “250 for 250” promotion, along with teaming up with Human-IT; allowed AT&T to hand out 250 laptops in honor of America’s 250th birthday.
After 175 were handed out in the Chicago area Tuesday, 75 were handed out in Danville Wednesday. AT&T Director of External Affairs Chris Warwick said it was all due to a great partnership.
AUDIO: We partnered with the Danville Public School Foundation. They pre-selected the students. That’s students that are going on to school at either DACC, or a four-year school. It’s all about connecting people. You know, connecting changes everything. So these students, we figured; since they were going to go on to school, and they’re going to go on to a two or a four-year university, they all need laptops for college. And we figured, what a great way to partner with the Danville Public School Foundation, to get laptops for these kids so they wouldn’t have that extra expense.

Outside in the DHS hallway, the Danville Public School Foundation’s Bob Richard and executive director Stephanie Yates were busy checking in students receiving laptops. Yates said they checked with DHS personnel for names to submit to AT&T.
AUDIO: Actually, we reached out to the high school and their guidance office. They selected students that are either going to DACC, or getting a scholarship to go to a four-year university. We’re really grateful for the opportunity to partner with AT&T. They’re giving the students just a jump start on their college endeavors.
The laptops were handed out between Noon and 2 PM on Wednesday.
