The Vermilion County Fair got underway on Wednesday (June 24th). Fair Board Secretary Paige Brown told CIMG that this year’s theme of “Livestock, Lineage, and Lemon Shake Ups” just made sense.
AUDIO: It kind of was based off the country’s 250th anniversary and county’s 200th anniversary. And there’s many, many of us that have been on the board for many years, or our kids have grown up. And soo we thought; “well, that’s a lineage!” And our current queen’s favorite food is lemon shake ups. And then, you’ve got to throw the livestock in there. So it just worked.

Saturday’s agenda will include not just the Demolition Derby in the evening, but also the Barnyard Follies in the afternoon. And they’ll split the winning pot in a special way.
AUDIO: A twist on the old Corporate Cup from the old Balloon Classic. And you get to do some fun things like chuck cow patties, pin a pig, and things like that. It’s a $25 entry fee for the team. And half of it (winning pot) will go to their team, and the other half will go to a charity of their choice.
(We should also mention the Thursday evening pro wrestling at the grandstand.)

CIMG ran into Brock and Krista from Covington, and their two little girls. Brock says they’ve come across the state line for the Vermilion County fair for the past three years.
AUDIO: (Brock) The ride thing’s a good deal, and they all love the pageant. (Girls) Hey, can you tell me what you like the most about the fair. What do you like? I like the trampoline. Good! How about you? What do you like the most? Um, mostly, I haven’t gone on every ride. So I don’t know. How about you, are you having a good time? (Krista) Oh yes, the girls are loving it. We love to come here every year.
Earlier we heard Paige Brown mention the current fair queen’s favorite drink. Now there’s a new fair queen. The results of Wednesday evening’s pageant were Gabby Krause from Hoopeston winning the Little Miss pageant, Tinley Miethe from Westville winning the Junior Miss pageant, and Haley Carlton from Georgetown being named the new Vermilion County Fair Queen.
The Vermilion County Fairgrounds are along U.S. 150, west of Danville, just past the I-74 interchange.
