ABOVE: Ground is broken for a Habitat for Humanity home at 602 N. Walnut by State Senator Paul Faraci, Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; State Rep Brandun Schweizer, future home owner Tabresha Morris, Vermilion Advantage’s Dana Rowland, and Danville Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Ryan Campbell.
Just two months after dedicating a house on Sherman for a Veteran, Habitat for Humanity is at it again in Danville; and this time they plan to build multiple homes. Friday (July 10th) afternoon, northwest of St. James United Methodist Church, on the northwest corner of Walnut and Davis at 602 North Walnut, ground was broken on a three-bed, two-bath home for Tabresha Morris. Morris has five daughters, two still at home with her. She’s been renting for years, and told CIMG how happy she was when her application with Habitat for Humanity was accepted.
AUDIO: Chuck Bryant called me with the news, because I think I was kind of getting on his nerves too much! And he called me; he was like “I meant to call and tell you; you got accepted, you got approved.” I didn’t think that I was going to get it. But it happened; and God blessed me and my family to be a first home buyer.”

Local officials in attendance and speaking at the groundbreaking included Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; State Senator Paul Faraci, and State Rep Brandun Schweizer.
AUDIO: Whenever we can get some new houses built, especially for some good people, it’s always amazing to see that happen.

Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr stated that with many old homes in that area having been torn down, with a couple more to follow, Walnut and Davis is a great location for these special homes. And Habitat for Humanity Danville Area Executive Director Ryan Campbell says, yes indeed, more homes will be built right around that Walnut and Davis intersection area.
AUDIO: This mixture of properties here has been a mixture of other people and the city all donating for Habitat, not just one property in particular. It’s been a collective effort, working with different individuals, different organizations; to make the whole project come together as one. So that’s kind of where we’re at now, with all of these here.
Campbell is hoping for the work on Tabresha Morris’ home to really get rolling in August.
