Both suspects in the day before Thanksgiving; November 27, 2024 afternoon shooting at a barbershop in the 1900 block of East Main Street will now be returning to Vermilion County Court on same day. Suspect Mario Scaife, arrested earlier this month on July 3rd; had a pre-trial session in the Vermilion County Courthouse this morning; and was given an agreed to continuance date of Tuesday, September 8th at 9 AM. That is the exact same date and time for the next court date involving the other suspect, 21-year-old Keshawn J. Cotton; who was arrested in October of 2025. At that time, a separate warrant was issued for a then 17-year-old male.

The November, 2024 shooting at the barbershop in the 1900 block of East Main Street claimed the lives of Keith G. Stone, 33, of Danville; and a 17-year-old male. A third victim was injured, but was treated at and released from the hospital.
During Monday (July 27th) morning’s court session, Judge Karen Wall denied an objection from Scaife’s attorney concerning requested photos and examinations of tattoos on Scaife’s body. That request had been made by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
