Northeast Elementary Magnet School Named One of America’s Healthiest Schools – 2026 All-Star Awardee
National award recognizes leaders in whole child health policy and practice change
(Danville, Illinois), August 12, 2026 – National children’s health organization Alliance for a Healthier Generation today unveiled its 2026 list of America’s Healthiest Schools, celebrating 1,376 K–12 schools nationwide for their commitment to advancing whole child health, including Northeast Elementary Magnet School.
Supported by Del Monte Foods, Kaiser Permanente, and Kohl’s Cares, Healthier Generation’s annual award program recognizes schools for implementing evidence-based policies and practices to support academic success and lifelong well-being. Schools are recognized in nine health-related topic areas. Northeast Elementary Magnet School was awarded in: Strengthening Social-Emotional Health & Learning, Cultivating Staff Well-Being, Increasing Family & Community Engagement, Improving Nutrition & Food Access, Implementing Local School Wellness Policy, Bolstering Physical Education & Activity, Enriching Health Education, Promoting Tobacco-Free Schools and Supporting School Health Services.
“Earning All-Star status for the first time marks a new milestone in our commitment to health and wellness. Northeast has a proud history of being the first school in the United States to receive the Gold Award in 2011 and earning the award again in 2014 and 2018. For the past few years, we continued to demonstrate that commitment by earning seven or eight of nine health-related topic areas.
This past year, we challenged ourselves to get back to the basics of supporting the whole child. We incorporated social-emotional learning into our morning announcements, improved our PBIS program, and revamped our discipline process to focus less on strict compliance and more on understanding behavior as a skill that can be taught and developed. We are incredibly proud of the progress happening here at Northeast as
