Vermillion County Remains Open for Business and Committed to Responsible Development
The Vermillion County Board of Commissioners wants to be clear that Vermillion County remains open for business and welcomes responsible economic development and investment.
Recent discussion surrounding a potential moratorium does not fully reflect what the County is working to accomplish. The intent is not to stop development or prevent a potential data center project. It is to allow the County to work collaboratively with residents, community leaders, and economic development partners to establish reasonable parameters for evaluating these projects.
Vermillion RISE is a unique asset that offers significant potential for investment and economic growth. The County’s goal is to pursue those opportunities in a way that protects the interests of our residents, provides clarity for potential developers, and produces long-term benefits for Vermillion County.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Commissioners announced the creation of a Data Center Committee to develop proposed ordinance language. The committee will include three members of the Area Plan Commission, one County Commissioner, one County Council member, one Vermillion RISE Board member, one member of the public, and a representative of Vermillion County LEDO.
The proposed ordinance will be presented to the Area Plan Commission for review before being forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for consideration.
This process is about finding the right balance between protecting Vermillion County and positioning our community for responsible economic growth.
