ABOVE: Vermilion County Works’ Chuck Jones, Madison Jones, and Ashley Jenkins at DACC Skilled Trades Fall Expo
The Danville Area Community College north parking lot along Main Street was especially busy between 10 and 2 Thursday (Oct 8). The annual DACC Skilled Trades Fall Expo had local business, industry, and other entities simply talking about opportunities in Danville and Vermilion County. Chuck Jones from Vermilion County Works was on hand; very happy to talk with youngsters about some real good avenues they could pursue.

AUDIO: We were really excited to see the high school students come out; learn a little bit more about some of the opportunities we have here in Vermilion County. Good to see that there were a lot of employers, a lot of trade unions here; representing what they do. And it was really just overall, I think, a good experience to find out exactly what is out here.
Jones says the opportunities are there. All that’s needed is the desire to aim for them.

AUDIO: It’s really interesting to note that there are a lot of careers out here that you don’t need a four year degree for. These are things that you can get trained for now. And within one, two, three years you can have a really strong paying job. And while you’re learning, you can still earn money while you’re doing that.
Chuck Jones added that he’s certainly looking forward to the day that the City of Danville’s efforts are able to bring new working opportunities to the former Quaker and Heatcraft sites on East Voorhees.
