With another full week of the fast moving harvest wrapping up on Friday afternoon (Oct 30), CIMG AG Director Gale Cunningham said that, yes, his reports have mentioned some additional eagerness from China to purchase American grain. But there are so many other factors as well; so the question always seems to be, are we going in the right direction?
AUDIO: Oh, I would like to say I hope so. It’s really questionable, especially with the potential of more combat in Iran. And, the escalation there, it could have some meaning. Because China supplies some artillery for some other conflicts, and it could have very well something to do with the economy as well.
Meanwhile, what does turning back the clocks do to the animals and livestock on the farm? Cunningham says the biggest challenge is actually the fact that the days are continuing to get shorter, no matter what time the sun happens to go down.

AUDIO: We have a lot less daylight and that takes an adjustment for, just like you and I. The weather gets cooler. There’s a lot of functions of an animal where as the temperature changes, their bodies start to change. They’re actually using up more energy every day just to exist, and grow more hair; and get ready for winter.
And as we know, this fall’s weather has allowed the farmers to GO, GO, GO on the harvest. That’s why Cunningham says every day on his reports; take some time to REST, REST, REST.
AUDIO: Steve, we’ve had three or four weeks of just solid, hot, beautiful fall weather. And no down time, other than maybe breakdown time. When you listen to me, I caution the farmers every day; because they’ve been hitting it hard, really hard, for at least three and a half – four weeks. Just straight every day, 16 -18 hours a day. They can combine beans almost non-stop, and a lot of them maybe did that.
And of course, with some rain, cooler temperatures, and standard time sunsets now all hitting at once; it may be a bit of a slower pace to the end of the harvest.
