High school and college graduates have hundreds of opportunities to land a job in Vermilion County. But the graduates are not the only ones many local employers hope to attract.
Jonathan Jett, Director of Vermilion County Works, says there are a variety of jobs available in our area. And he explained why he thinks employers are finding it difficult to fill slots…
{Audio: ‘’There’s a lot of things going-on. And there’s still people dealing with COVID and the pandemic. We have a lot of people that maybe aren’t as motivated right now because they’re nervous about getting back out there. Maybe the child care issues with COVID (are a reason), said Jett. ‘’But it’s time to get back to work now. Our economy needs it. These employers need this. We need to keep the businesses here, keep them open. And this is what we can do for them.’’}
Jett says it is important to fill the positions….
{Audio: ‘’We’ve got to fill the jobs here, otherwise those employers that are here are not going to want to expand and grow. Or we’re not going to attract new businesses. So we have to show that we have the people here – and I know we do,’’ said Jett during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’They just need to get out there and look for the jobs.’’
Jett also noted there is help available if you need training…
{Audio: ‘’DACC can definitely help-out with a lot of training opportunities. The program I work for – Vermilion County Works – actually has funding to help pay for the tuition, fees, books, support services – like child care, mileage. We can help with that to get them through.’’}
Jett also cautioned the extended unemployment benefits and federal stimulus money will not last forever. So he says now is a great opportunity to find a good job.
