The Superintendent of the Georgetown-Ridge Farm School District is being honored by her colleagues. Dr. Jean Neal has been named the 2018 Superintendent of Distinction by the Illini Division of the Illinois Association of School Administrators.
State School Superintendent Dr. Tony Smith was the speaker at a Springfield luncheon today (Tuesday) where Neal was honored.
Those nominating Neal noted she facilitated financial reform over a one year period replacing a $1.1 million dollar budget deficit with a balanced budget. Dr. Neal was also cited for maintaining a strong working relationship with the teacher’s union and administration….maintaining educational programming and adding academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students despite staggering financial deficits….and leading reform efforts in curriculum, data analysis, textbook adoption, and special education service delivery, and others.
Dr. Neal was selected for the award by her peers in a five county area of central Illinois.
‘’In a field of exemplary Illini Region school superintendents who I have collaborated with, learned from and admired for their commitment to students and public education, I am sincerely honored and humbled to have been chosen by my peers for the 2018 Superintendent of Distinction Award,’’ said Neal. She has been an educator for 18 years – including serving as Superintendent of Schools in the Georgetown-Ridge Farm Community Unit School District #4 for the last six years.
