Ideal weather conditions for this year’s Vermilion River Fall Festival helped attract thousands of people to Danville’s Ellsworth Park.
In addition to the dozens of craft vendors, a car show and free entertainment, the festival also included a clean-up along the river that splits the park.
Keep Vermilion County Beautiful Executive Director Brenda Adams led Saturday’s effort…
{AUDIO: ‘’We just ask for volunteers from all over the county to come and assist us with cleaning-up the area – pick up trash. Last year we picked-up twenty-something tires out of the water. So we’re just working at keeping Vermilion County Beautiful.}
Sandy Perry of Georgetown was one of the volunteers helping. She told us what she found along the river in Ellsworth Park….
{AUDIO: ”I just found a little liquor bottle in some fresh mulch. And I found a tire, and I found a little tricycle that was all rusted out in the river. So a lot of interesting stuff…garbage out there.”}
Adams says Keep Vermilion County Beautiful also has an ‘Adopt a Spot’ program……
{AUDIO: ‘’They know it’s littered and they pick-up there at least three times a year – so it’s not a big commitment. We have our Great American Clean-Up that we do annually. We clean-up around the basketball tournament for DACC. (We) try to keep the area clean and beautiful so that when guests come in they’re not seeing a littered area and they’re thinking – wow – this is a really nice place to come and visit.’’
Adams noted more information about Keep Vermilion County Beautiful can be found on their Facebook page.
