THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT RELEASE
The Vermilion County Conservation District is offering a Full Moon Hike Program at Kennekuk County Park. Join us on Friday, September 29 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. for a guided Full Moon Hike where we will look and listen for nocturnal animals as we learn about their adaptations for living in the dark.
We will also use an echo-meter device to hear and identify bat echolocation frequencies. Information about our night sky and light pollution will also be discussed. Participants will meet at the Kennekuk Environmental Education Center.
The Conservation District’s Laura Danzl says this is meant to be fun, as well as educational.
AUDIO: We’re hoping to look for nocturnal animals, listen for some owls, hopefully see some bats; and just try to take some of that fear and uncomfortableness that people can have at night, with a little bit of education and to hopefully find some cool stuff.
We will hike approximately one mile on a paved road, gravel road, and a short forest trail. This event is open to all ages, but children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Pre-registration is required and limited to 20 people. Reserve your spot for $5, and find full details, at https://FullMoonHike2023.eventbrite.comor call 217-442-1691.
