Vermilion County continues to lag behind many others in the number of citizens fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Only about a third of county residents (34.20 percent) are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. But Community Liaison Melissa Rome of the Vermilion County Health Department is pleased that many people are wearing masks….
{AUDIO: ‘’You’ve got to do the right thing. You’ve got to care about other people. That’s one thing that I just keep letting people know is – you taking precautions isn’t just protecting yourself. It’s protecting your neighbor. It’s protecting your children. It’s protecting your grandparents. It’s protecting the person that’s in front of you at the grocery line. It’s hard for me to have to continue to tell people – I just want you to care about other people so that we can stop this.’’}
Rome added Vermilion County has been fortunate in one way….
{AUDIO: ‘’We are very lucky so far that we have not had any pediatric hospitalizations. But I’ve noticed that we do have some younger adults that are now hospitalized. So it is not just our 65-plus that are in the hospital. It is all ages.}
Recent reports from the Vermilion County Health Department have shown an increase in the number of children getting COVID. The Department reported 14 new cases late Wednesday and said one teenager, four grade-school aged children, and one pre-school child were among them.
The Health Department continues to recommend that everyone, despite their vaccination status, wear a mask when indoors. The Department is also encouraging citizens to get vaccinated, get tested, and stay home if you are feeling sick.
