Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer joined 1490 WDAN’s Linda Bolton on the News Makers program to talk about some of this year’s Downtown Danville events. The two mostly on everyone’s minds right now: Danville’s Got Talent on Friday February 4th; and the recently announced GLOW DOWNTOWN 5K Race on Friday March 4th.
Greer says the Danville’s Got Talent show will now be a hybrid event, meaning they will keep the Fischer Theatre at 25 percent capacity by having performers distribute tickets to family and friends. Others will be able to watch from the comforts of their home by going to the First Friday’s Events Facebook Page. Greer says, choosing the performers at auditions was a challenge.
AUDIO: We opened up auditions for anybody in Vermilion County that wanted to audition. We auditioned over 30 people, with a panel of four judges. And we were only going to pick 12, but we ended up picking 14 to perform because we had such talent and it was a hard decision. Our judges just deliberated, and we ended up going with 14.
For the 5K run on March 4th, Greer says, they’re planning a night time adventure.
AUDIO: There will actually be black lights that are lining Vermilion Street from about the Fischer block to around the Kresge lot. And so when you run through that area, if you wear neon clothes, or bright colored clothes, you are going to light up, you’re going to glow. We’re encouraging people to wear, you know, glow jewelry or body paint. You will go through Downtown and then you head north. It actually takes you through Springhill Cemetary.
The Glow 5K run will benefit the Survivor Resource Center, which is relocating to Downtown Danville. It’s 12 dollars to run or walk, 30 dollars if you’d also like a commemorative T-shirt. Register at the City of Danville web site, or the First Friday’s facebook page.
