Some seventh and eighth grade students from Danville’s Schlarman Academy got a special lesson when they visited the Vermilion County Museum. They got to see a special traveling exhibit describing the Holocaust.
Bob Lehmann, Athletic and Activities Director at Schlarman Academy, says the exhibit is timely….
{AUDIO: ‘’As we see what’s going on in the events around the world today – especially in the Middle East – we have not learned the lessons of the Holocaust. Hate is still prevalent. Anti-Semitism is still prevalent. And we need to educate our young people – and everyone – about what happens if hate and anti-Semitism are left unchecked.”}
Asked what he hopes the students remember about the exhibit, Lehmann noted….
{AUDIO: “I don’t want them to remember the bodies and the other horrific things that are depicted in there. I want them to remember that it started with the young, but then at the end – the Liberation and the rescue – that there were good people actively working against it. That there is hope.”}
And Lehmann added it’s important to continue to learn the lessons of the Holocaust.
The Holocaust exhibit is still on display at the Vermilion County Museum, but time is running out if you want to see it. It will only be there through Friday, November 10, 2023. And there is no additional cost to see it. It is included with your regular admission price at the Vermilion County Museum.
