Danville Corporation Counsel James Simon says he hopes more people will renew their rental registrations online. A new rental registration portal went live last Monday on the City of Danville website. Simon adds there were a couple of glitches but says several people have already used the new portal.
Simon also told members of the Public Services Committee of the Danville City Council last evening that efforts are underway to update several city ordinances. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr., says it is something that is long overdue….
{AUDIO: “The biggest thing is that we haven’t updated a lot of our ordinances in many, many years – some in decades. And it’s time for a fresh look and a fresh approach. And particularly, the biggest interest to me probably is updating our rental registration process. As you all probably saw from the budget, we intend to hire two rental inspectors. And we want to make sure that people have safe and humane living environments.”}
Mayor Williams says one of the areas being reviewed is the City’s liquor ordinance…
{AUDIO: “The good thing is we’ve grown so much that…we need, for example, to do a couple of things like update the number of licenses we have available for restaurants and things like that. So that when we have new restaurants come in, if they want to be able to sell beer and wine we need to make sure that they’re able to. So just doing a lot of updates that need done there as well.”}
Simon said his goal is to present a revised liquor ordinance to the Danville City Council in time to approve it in February.
