With a week full of winter weather on it’s way, Danville Public Works says they are ready to get busy. Director Carl Carpenter says they are solid on equipment, solid on personnel, and more than solid on their salt supply.
AUDIO: Actually we have more than normal, Steve. We’ve got an actual full barn back there. We’re only used, on two small events, for the hills and bridges. So, we’re ready to go. Just some minor catch ups on some hoses the morning; and that should be about it.
Public Works Operations leader David Ruwe advises drivers to be ready, allow extra time, and give everyone room to work.
AUDIO: Make sure you’re leaving early for anywhere you’re going; any appointments or work or anything like that; give yourself extra time so that you can drive cautiously. And just pay attention to the state of the roads. We’ll be doing our best to keep roads clear through every event we have this week. Outside of that, just try to pay attention and help us out. And if you’re able to stay off the roads, that always helps.
Both Carpenter and Ruwe said the most challenging part may be this weekend when extreme cold temperatures arrive, leading to more freezing. The hope is to have as much as possible cleared off the roads by that time.
