Recent heavy rains and extreme cold temperatures have reportedly placed extreme strain on Danville’s water treatment facility. A Facebook message posted by Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. states that he is in communication with Aqua Illinois, and a shut off is not expected at this point. However, low water pressure is expected throughout the city. Danville District 118 dismissed early today (Thurs, January 18th).
Neuhoff Media has placed phone calls to Aqua Illinois.
FACEBOOK MESSAGE FROM MAYOR RICKEY WILLIAM, JR
Hey gang, there’s a rumor going around that all water will be shutoff to Aqua Illinois customers in our area overnight or tomorrow. I just spoke w/our Area Manager, Jonathan Keim, and they do not anticipate that happening at this time. They are working around-the-clock to ensure that we continue to have a strong water supply. However, due to the heavy rains we received on Friday followed by subzero temperatures over the last several days, our water treatment plant and system have been under severe stress. As such, the Aqua Team anticipates decreased flows and thus decreased water pressure, meaning your toilets will still flush & you’ll still be able to bathe, just maybe not as heartily as usual. We do not project a need to close schools or public buildings at this time. However, should that change, Aqua will inform Dr. Geddis & me by 5 a.m., and we’ll notify the public immediately thereafter. Be safe & warm & PLEASE do not start trying to hoard water or you’ll only exacerbate the problem!
*Thursday morning update from Director Keim at AQUA ILLINOIS
We’ve been trending in the right direction as we’ve worked overnight and don’t expect any disruptions. If that changes as the day goes on, I will update you as soon as possible.*
