Friday evening (May 3rd) meant another First Fridays event in Downtown Danville, and the return of SPORTS AND BREWS brought old the young and old. Danville Community Relations Coordinator Rheanna Ollis talked about part of the “starting lineup.”
AUDIO: We have bounce, we have a dunk tank, we have the Vermilion Voles, the Danville Soccer Association.
For outgoing Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer, this was the first First Fridays event where she was just on the sideline, as it was put together by Ollis. But she was there having fun.
AUDIO: This is the first event I’ve been totally hands off. I’m just here supporting. But we’re gonna have pickleball, soccer’s down the road; there’s all kinds of sports activities, it’s just a great time.
At the southern end of Vermilion were the Vermilion Voles old time base ball team. And Jim Knoblauch said they’ve been around for 21 years, and the want to recruit enough players for 21 more. He loves to have folks stop by at Sports and Brews.
AUDIO: You just get a wide assortment of people. You get moms and dads kids, older folks who come down here; and younger folks that we hope to attract to our team, or at the very least come out and watch our games.
Volunteering at the basketball shooting competition was Carrie Wilson from the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office.
AUDIO: I see it and it looks like a lot of fun. I enjoy the First Fridays so I thought “why not?” It’s a fun little basketball game, 30 seconds. It keeps them interested, but it also gives them a little competitiveness. And they love it.
And with the beanbags trying their hand at a cornhole game, Samantha and Paislee.
AUDIO: It’s our first time doing “Sports and Brews,” but we come to First Fridays in Danville every month. And we always have a great time.
AUDIO: No one won, it was a tie!
Yes, the ziplining did get postponed due to a scheduling misunderstanding. But if all goes well, they’ll have that at the Downtown Carnival later this year.
