It was this past weekend (May 4th – 5th) that volunteers were asked to stop by and help continue with the refurbishing of the Friendly Town Traffic Safety Education Center at Lincoln Park. From painting to washing to building and planting, dozens were there on Saturday, and the work continued on Sunday. Chad Brough of Brough Remodeling is still rather new in the area. But he found out right away how many have great memories of Friendly Town from their elementary school childhood days in Danville.
AUDIO: It was neat for the community come out, and to see all the people here in the community putting this together. It’s funny, after I talked people all around town I hear them say, “Oh my gosh, I did that as a kid!”
For Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates, it was a top of the line team effort.
AUDIO: Contractors were just coming out to see what they could do to help. Chad Alvarez, with Alvarez Power Washing; he was out here, I think, for about seven or eight hours; just cleaning off all the sidewalks and the streets. It was different people from the community that we’ve all known here and there for years coming together. And then we have new people coming in, and this is a wonderful thing to be introduced into. This is Danville. This is the way we are.
Friendly Town is scheduled to be completely operational with its new look starting this summer.
