THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
On July 23, 2024, Dillon Cagle (DOB: 6/5/1995), previously of Tilton, Illinois, was sentenced to 8 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Judge Mark S. Goodwin, following a plea of guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a class 2 felony. Following his term of imprisonment, Cagle will serve 1 year of mandatory supervised release.
Judge Goodwin heard evidence from the State, that on April 29, 2023, Tilton Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Dillon Cagle was a front seat passenger. Tilton was assisted by agents of the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group. During the traffic stop, officers located a loaded, sawed-off shotgun behind the driver’s seat. During an interview with police, Cagle admitted that the firearm and ammunition were his.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Tilton Police Department and the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group for their combined efforts in this case. She added, “Felons who illegally possess guns put our community in serious danger. My office will continue to work with
police to remove guns from the hands of felons and to obtain serious sentences for defendants who relentlessly disobey the law.”
