RANKIN — Rankin Township High School graduate Jim Fitzhenry fondly remembers growing up in the small Vermilion County village.
His Class of 1968 had a whopping 19 students, and he said his sister’s was even smaller — just 12.
“It’s small town. I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” he said.
He said it was a safe community and he has wonderful memories, and the only downside was that everybody knew everybody else, so if you did something, “the network runs quick.”
This weekend, Fitzhenry, who now lives in Virginia, is returning to his hometown with about 150-175 other former students to be a part of the 100th annual Alumni Banquet.
About 235 people are expected to attend the event Saturday at the Rankin Lions Club. Attendees will include classmates, teachers and their guests. The alumni list numbers around 620.
Prior to the banquet, there will be a display of alumni memorabilia and a band.
