It was a usual, busy late morning of packaging food for the St. James Food Pantry around 11:30 AM Wednesday. But suddenly, activity was stopped; and a Meijer’s Hero Award was presented to the lady who began the St. James Food Pantry in 2008, Carol Olson.
Carol and her husband Mike now live in Northwestern Indianapolis. But they still come back to help with the food pantry sometimes; and on this day, Carol was simply told, “please come, we need some help.”

But there was more to it than just that. A $5,000 dollar award was presented from Meijer to the St. James Food Pantry, along with a $500 certificate for Carol and Mike to use while shopping at Meijer. Carol was very touched.
AUDIO: From the beginning we’ve had great volunteers. And you can’t do it by yourself. And Second Baptist Church helped us out a lot, because they had a food pantry, and they helped us. Eastern Illinois Food Bank has been a big help. Midwest Food Bank; and Meijer has been a big help. County Market helps us too. The community is very giving.
