DANVILLE — Missy Buhr sometimes misses the second-graders she taught in Ludlow and Potomac.
But then she remembers that in her current role as agriculture literacy coordinator for the Vermilion County Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program, she has an even bigger classroom and the opportunity to impact more students’ lives.
The program reaches 250 classrooms in every elementary school in Vermilion County, reaching more than 4,000 students each year.
Buhr said they have very generous donors and support from farm bureau representatives.
The south Indianapolis native, who has been in her current role for six years, lives with her family outside Gifford in the house her husband, Andy, grew up in. He is an ag loan officer with The Fountain Trust Co. They have two children: Max, a sophomore at Armstrong Township High School, and Annie, an eighth-grader at Prairieview-Ogden.
Missy learned about the Ag in the Classroom program while teaching in Ludlow, through the Champaign County Farm Buearu and director Sarah Kaper.
