A special program for young ladies is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th, 12 Noon to 3 PM; in Danville’s New Life Church of Faith at 1419 North Bowman. Tia Awodeha and Brittney Isaacs recently joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program. Awodeha stated that while working as a school counselor she sees all the pressures that young girls go through, and all the problems they face. And she decided, after all her counseling and raising of her own children as well, it was time to increase the message that girls do not have to surrender to what society wants them to be.
AUDIO: But I also want to encourage them in their faith. Working here in the district, you know I am counseling the young girls all day long. And they’re having some major issues with who they are. I just to reiterate who they are, and who God has created them to be.
Twenty-five year old Brittney Isaacs is someone Awodeha has mentored. She told Laura Williams that being strong willed when she was younger helped her, and she wants to pass that, and other important coping skills, on to others.
AUDIO: And I’m like “I can give that to other girls.” You should not have to lay down and die to what society says, or what they (should) look like. And it’s lifting up their spirit, and just their relationship with God. He reminds me all the time, “You are fearfully, wonderfully made. You are beautiful and perfect in my sight; I have called you for who you are.
No pre-registration for this June 8th event is needed, but you may RSVP and find more information by going to the “More than Pretty Girls Conference” Facebook page.
