THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
On June 3, 2024, Devin Elam (DOB: 8/6/1999), formerly of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to 9 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following a plea of guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a class 2 felony. After completing his term of imprisonment, Elam will serve 1 year of mandatory supervised release.
Judge Derek Girton heard evidence that on May 23, 2023, Danville Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Garden Drive in Danville. Shortly after, Devin Elam was found in a nearby apartment. Subsequently, officers received consent to search by the resident and located a firearm, holster and multiple magazines. The gun and accessories were sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis and Elam’s DNA was found on the evidence.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanks the Danville Police Department for their continued work removing firearms from the hands of felons. She also expressed her appreciation to the witnesses who came forward with information that assisted police in their investigation.
